Barnsdall Art Center Student Advisory Committee (BACSAC)

The Barnsdall Art Center Student Advisory Committee (BACSAC) is a 501(c)(3) all volunteer organization dedicated to providing affordable, quality arts education to children and adults at Barnsdall Art Park. BACSAC offers up to 75 classes in art and music for each of the 4 sessions of instruction throughout the year. BACSAC supports programming for all of the classes at the Barnsdall Art Center and Junior Arts Center. The organization funds approximately 60% of the essential expenses for the site’s creative courses, including most of the compensation for the talented instructors who lead them. BACSAC also provides crucial financial support for nearly 100% of the art supplies used in those dynamic classes.

Formed in 1925, DCA promotes arts and culture as a way to ignite a powerful dialogue, engage LA’s residents and visitors, and ensure LA’s varied cultures are recognized, acknowledged, and experienced. DCA’s mission is to strengthen the quality of life in Los Angeles by stimulating and supporting arts and cultural activities, ensuring public access to the arts for residents and visitors alike. DCA advances the social and economic impact of arts and culture through grantmaking, public art, community arts, performing arts, and strategic marketing, development, design, and digital research. DCA creates and supports arts programming, maximizing relationships with other city agencies, artists, and arts and cultural nonprofit organizations to provide excellent service in neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles.

The Department of Recreation and Parks is the steward to over 16,000 acres of parkland, offering extensive recreational, social and cultural programs at 444 park sites in every Los Angeles neighborhood from the valley to the sea. It is one of the City’s most comprehensive social service providers, offering an array of diverse, interesting and comprehensive recreational programs to serve youth, adults and seniors. The department takes pride in supporting the City’s urban wilderness and open spaces by maintaining and caring for the park urban tree canopy, 13 lakes and 92 miles of hiking trails that contribute to LA’s vast natural resources. Its staff also maintains and operate hundreds of athletic fields, 422 playgrounds, 321 tennis courts, 184 recreation centers, 72 fitness areas, 62 swimming pools and aquatic centers, 30 senior centers, 26 skate parks, 13 golf courses, 12 museums, 9 dog parks, 187 summer youth camps and help support the Summer Night Lights gang reduction and community intervention program.

 

LOS ANGELES PARKS FOUNDATION

Established in 2008 as a California not-for-profit, the Los Angeles Parks Foundation was created to support the Los Angeles City Department of Recreation and Parks. Its mission is to enhance, expand, preserve, and promote public recreation, parks, and open space for the diverse people of Los Angeles.
